A Georgian citizen, illegally detained by the occupation forces near the village of Balaani in the Russian-occupied central Georgian region of Tskhinvali (South Ossetia), has been released, the State Security Service of Georgia said on Tuesday.

The state body said the hotline operated for information exchange along the occupation line and “all mechanisms” at the disposal of the Government had been used to ensure the release of Vasil Kenkadze.

His immediate release was also “actively discussed” at the 115th meeting of the Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism, a platform facilitating discussions between the de facto authorities and the Georgian Government, in the village of Ergneti near the occupied region, the state body added.

The Service said the Government continued to “work actively” to ensure the release of other Georgian citizens illegally detained in the Russian-occupied territories.
