A Georgian citizen illegally detained by the Russian-controlled occupation forces in central Georgia in May was released on Wednesday, the State Security Service said.

The Service noted the release of Levan Petriashvili followed its “active use” of the hotline mechanism used for exchange of information along the occupation line separating the Russian-occupied Abkhazia and Tskhinvali (South Ossetia) regions from the rest of the country.

It added the topic had also been “regularly raised” by the Government in meetings of the Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism and Geneva International Discussions, two platforms involving Georgian Government officials and de facto authorities in the occupied regions.
