Vedant Patel, the Deputy Spokesperson of the United States Department of State, on Wednesday welcomed the European Commission's recommendations for the enlargement of the European Union.
The State Department’s comments followed the decision on Wednesday by the Commission to adopt the 2023 Enlargement Package, recommending opening accession talks with Ukraine, Moldova and Bosnia and Herzegovina and granting the EU membership candidate status to Georgia.
In his remarks over the matter, Patel noted his country’s Government “strongly” supported the European aspirations of the candidate and aspirant countries.
The official called the development a “crucial moment for transatlantic unity”, and further pointed out “we encourage candidate and aspirant countries to seize the moment to reveal their full potential”.
