Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili on Thursday congratulated the Abkhazian and Ossetian “brothers” on the European Commission’s decision to recommend the European Council to grant Georgia the membership candidate status, by saying “this victory also belongs to them”.

Papuashvili’s comments followed the decision on Wednesday by the Commission to adopt the 2023 Enlargement Package, recommending opening accession talks with Ukraine, Moldova and Bosnia and Herzegovina and granting the EU membership candidate status to Georgia.

I congratulate all of Georgia on the decision of the European Commission, [I also congratulate the] Abkhazian and Ossetian brothers, to whom this victory also belongs”, Papuashvili said.
