Robin Dunnigan, the United States Ambassador to Georgia, on Wednesday highlighted reforms carried out in Georgia’s penitentiary system in comments at a conference discussing innovations for rehabilitation and resocialisation of convicts and probationers.

In her comments, Dunnigan noted the United States Government’s “determination to continue our partnership” with Georgia.

“With great pride, I would like to mention the reforms that have already been carried out in the penitentiary system of Georgia, that is, among them in the technological direction”, she told the event.

“There are different areas for probationers with different services available, as well as appointments, video appointments where inmates have the opportunity to talk and have appointments with family members. It is very important to understand and identify their needs”, Dunnigan told the audience.

The American diplomat also stressed her Government would continue to support the country in the reforms, in particular in empowering women professionals.
