The prospects of deepening cooperation between Georgia and the United States were discussed on Friday by the Georgian Justice Minister Rati Bregadze and Robin Dunnigan, the newly appointed US Ambassador to the country.
The meeting focused on the existing and future platforms for partnership between the two countries in the field of justice, with the officials highlighting the “successful cooperation” between Georgia and the US relating to extradition and fighting cross-border crimes.
The plans for signing a bilateral extradition agreement “in the near future” to further deepen the partnership in this regard were also stressed by the sides, with the Georgian Minister proposing the establishment of an annual legal forum with the US, the Justice Ministry said.

Bregadze and Dunnigan also reviewed the high-level international conference on innovations in the social rehabilitation process of prisoners and probationers scheduled to be hosted for the first time in Georgia’s capital Tbilisi on November 1 - 3.
The conference will be held at the initiative of the Justice Ministry in cooperation with the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs of the US State Department and the European Organisation of Prison and Correctional Services.
The Georgian Minister thanked the Ambassador for her country’s “active support” to Georgia’s ongoing penitentiary and probation reforms.
