The Georgian national anthem has just been performed at the FIBA Basketball World Cup for the first time in history, with the Georgian basketball team playing its first-ever match against Cape Verde at this moment in Japan’s city of Okinawa.
The team earned a spot at the tournament in February despite losing to Iceland 80-77 in its final qualifying game, thanks to their 88-85 victory over Iceland back in November.
The Georgian team could afford a loss by three points in the return game of Group L of the European qualifiers, due to their superior goal difference.
