Georgia defeated by Australia in last game of Basketball World Cup

Georgia’s national basketball team were defeated by Australia by 100-84 in the last match of the second round of the FIBA World Cup on Sunday in Okinawa, Japan.

The Georgian team, coached by Ilias Zouros, played for the third place in the group, as Slovenia and Germany advanced to the next stage of the World Cup.

In his comments at the press conference, Zouros thanked FIBA for hosting the Georgian team “very well”, while also extending his gratitude towards fans who supported the team “during this time”.

Special thanks to my players. We have achieved more than we thought before coming here [...] I love my basketball players”, he added.

The debutant Georgians won two games against Cape Verde and Venezuela, losing to three opponents, Australia, Germany and Slovenia.
