Artists, officials send condolences after painter Temo Gotsadze dies at 82

Art professionals and officials from across Georgia on Monday sent their condolences to the family and colleagues of Temo Gotsadze, a recognised Georgian painter, who died at the age of 82.

The Georgian Ministry of Culture noted the “mythological stories, symbolic icons, patriotic themes and abstractions” in the works of Gotsadze.

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili highlighted the late creative’s “unique” style, which he said had given the painter a “special place” in the history of Georgian professional art.

 

His fruitful work in the development of modern fine art and education of new generations of artists is especially noteworthy”, Garibashvili said.

Gotsadze’s monumental paintings include the work on the conference hall of the State Institute of Culture in 1998 and the of the Institute of Management Systems in 1980, as well as his 1979 Pirosmani.
