Georgian cultural institutions, industry professionals and officials on Tuesday sent their condolences to the family and colleagues of acclaimed Georgian writer Zurab Karumidze, who died at the age of 66.
The Georgian Writers' House and the National Library of the country, as well as various publishing houses, expressed their “deep sorrow” over Karumidze’s death, who in 2010 received the Saba Literary Prize for the Best Criticism, Essay or Documentary Prose for the book The Life of Jazz.
Famous novels by Karumidze, who worked at the 20th-century literature research centre of the Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University, include Untergang or Journey through Europe, Dagny, or a Love Feast and Melia-Tulefia: Fox-trot.
In 2018, his novel Dagny, or a Love Feast was ranked third in the top ten books of February by the popular German broadcaster SWR2.
