Nikoloz Samkharadze, the Georgian Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee Chair, on Thursday highlighted the Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili’s visit to China and said “the fact that Garibashvili's visit is covered by the leading Chinese media and is at its epicentre is not accidental as the role and function of Georgia on the world stage are growing”.

In his remarks over the visit, Samkharadze noted the Georgian Government had shown to its partners that “it is a responsible country and it’s a country that is certainly focused on protecting its own national interests”, however, “it is also a country that fulfils its commitment and contractual obligations it has with various partners”.

Trust towards our country, not only in our neighbourhood, I mean our immediate neighbours - Armenia, Azerbaijan, Turkey and European countries, but also in the whole world, has increased, and this is depicted by the high-level meetings held, the interest towards Georgia that we have today, and it is not accidental that not long ago the prime ministers of Central Asian countries visited us, now our Prime Minister is in Beijing”, Samkharadze said.

Garibashvili on Thursday started his visit to attend the opening ceremony of the Summer World University Games - a multi-sport event hosted in Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan Province.

In the framework of the visit, the Government head will hold “high-level” meetings planned in the city, followed by discussions with Chinese officials in Beijing.
