Irakli Chikovani, an MP from the ruling Georgian Dream party, on Friday said the decision to raise Georgia-China cooperation to a “strategic partnership” would provide for more opportunities to develop trade and economic relations between the two states.
In his remarks, Chikovani noted the Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili’s ongoing visit to China was “very important”.
The Georgian Prime Minister is having a very important visit to China - this is a historical fact when the leaders of the two countries meet and talk about strengthening the cooperation between our countries. It should be emphasised that the situation we have today in terms of cooperation is a very important result”, Chikovani said.
“The decision to raise the cooperation to a strategic partnership will give us even more opportunities to develop our trade and economic partnership and implement many new products that will be beneficial to our state”, he noted.
Chinese President Xi Jinping on Friday announced the establishment of a strategic partnership with Georgia and a “new stage” in bilateral ties between the two countries in his meeting with Garibashvili on the sidelines of the Summer World University Games in Chengdu.
