Gia Volski, an MP from the ruling Georgian Dream party and the Vice Speaker of the Georgian Parliament, on Friday highlighted the country’s “special geopolitical position” on the historical Silk Road on the backdrop of Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili’s ongoing visit to China.
Volski noted China was a “serious partner, including for Western countries”, adding the partnership involved not only the South Caucasus and Asian regions but also “relations with Western markets”.
Of course, Georgia occupies a special geopolitical position on the historical Silk Road, which leads from Asia to the markets of Western Europe”, the Parliament official pointed out.
Volski also added agreements expected to be signed during Garibashvili’s visit would “once again confirm and emphasise” China’s strategic partnership with Georgia was “of special importance”.
Chinese President Xi Jinping on Friday announced the establishment of a strategic partnership with Georgia and a “new stage” in bilateral ties between the two countries in his meeting with Garibashvili on the sidelines of the Summer World University Games in Chengdu.
In his turn, Garibashvili highlighted the "importance of friendship and partnership" with China and noted his Government was “committed” to deepening trade and economic ties with Beijing.
