Beka Davituliani, an MP of the ruling Georgian Dream party, on Thursday highlighted the Georgian Prime Minister’s visit to China by saying “the potential that exists between the two countries must be used”.

“We must be able to use the potential that exists between the two countries. Accordingly, the Prime Minister's visit to China will be a very important step towards this”, Davituliani said.

In his remarks, the ruling party MP stressed China was “one of the main actors in the modern world”, making “any visit, especially the visit of the Georgian Prime Minister” to the country “important”.

We are a country that has free trade agreements with China and the European Union at the same time. [...] I hope that we will be able to, on the one hand, realise our foreign policy goal of getting closer to the European Union, and, on the other, to use the potential that our geography and geopolitical realities give us in today's situation”, he concluded.

Garibashvili on Thursday started his visit to attend the opening ceremony of the Summer World University Games - a multi-sport event hosted in Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan Province.

In the framework of the visit, the Government head will hold “high-level” meetings planned in the city, followed by discussions with Chinese officials in Beijing.
