Georgian Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili will be in Brussels for a working visit from Tuesday to Wednesday to meet high-ranking European Union officials including Oliver Varhelyi, the Commissioner for Neighbourhood and Enlargement.
The visit will focus on the process of the country’s integration into the EU, the question of the bloc granting it the membership candidate status later this year, and the domestic progress in implementing the conditions for the status, the Georgian foreign office said.
The Georgian official will also focus on the oral report made by the European Commission regarding Georgia's application to join the European Union, which outlined the country’s progress, and the analytical report published by the European Commission in February, which positively evaluated Georgia's efforts and progress in its legislative convergence with the EU.
Within the framework of the meetings, “special attention” will be paid to the process of sectoral rapprochement with the European Union and the “positive dynamics of high-level visits” between Georgia and the bloc.
