Relations between Georgia and Greece, the former's European integration, and security matters in the Black Sea region were discussed on Wednesday in a meeting between the Georgian Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili and his Greek counterpart Giorgos Gerapetritis.
Meeting on the sidelines of the NATO Summit in Vilnius, the meeting covered the agenda of relations between the countries, noting Georgia valued its “multidimensional partnership” with Greece “built on shared historical links and European principles”.

The discussion also reviewed the security environment in the Black Sea region and emphasised Georgia's role as a “reliable NATO partner” in ensuring peace and stability in the region.
The officials emphasised the process of implementation of the recommendations outlined by the European Council for granting Georgia the European Union membership candidate status later this year, with “active work” on the part of the country’s authorities for the purpose.
Darchiashvili added Georgia had benefited from “crucial messages” at the ongoing Summit, and highlighted the Greek Government’s “essential” support for Georgia's sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as its EU and Euro-Atlantic integration, was “greatly appreciated”.
