The hilltop TV tower overlooking Georgia’s capital Tbilisi was on Tuesday illuminated in the colours of the flag of the United States to commemorate Independence Day celebrations.
Tbilisi City Hall said the symbolic celebration marked the 247th celebration of the July 4 date in the US.
It also said the move was designed to send a message to the “friend country and strategic partner” on the annual date.
Georgian officials congratulated the United States on its 247th Independence Day today.
The United States Ambassador to Georgia Kelly Degnan on Thursday said the “strong independent spirit” and love of freedom of citizens of Georgia was a basis for close partnership and friendship between the two countries.
Georgia and its people, as a “proud and freedom-loving nation”, share the same values and principles of freedom and democracy that “form the foundation of the enduring friendship” with the United States, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili said on Thursday at the official reception held at the US Embassy in Tbilisi on the occasion of the Declaration of Independence of the USA.
The United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Friday wished Georgian citizens a happy Independence Day and said they understood “deeply” the “value of independence, freedom and democracy”.
The Georgia-US relationship today is “as strong as ever", and our friendship is based on “shared values”, said Irakli Garibashvili, the Prime Minister of Georgia, on the celebration of the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between two countries.
Georgian Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili on Friday said the Georgian Government was particularly “proud” of the relations between Georgia and the United States.
US Ambassador to Georgia Kelly Degnan has delivered a speech in celebration of 30 years of diplomatic relations between Georgia and the US at the National Parliamentary Library of Georgia earlier today. Ambassador Degnan reaffirmed that Georgia and the US are "strategic partners," and the US is "very proud" to be assisting Georgia in strengthening democracy.
