The regional security challenges and bilateral cooperation between Georgia and Sweden, as well as relations with NATO, were discussed on Tuesday by Georgian Defence Minister Juansher Burchuladze and his Swedish counterpart Carl-Oskar Bohlin.
At a meeting, held within the framework of Burchuladze’s visit to Sweden, the sides reviewed prospects of future cooperation and agreed to further strengthen bilateral relations, with Buchuladze thanking the Swedish side for their “strong political and crucial practical support” in the field of defence.
Sweden’s “significant contribution” to the European Union Monitoring Mission, the only foreign mission in Georgia observing activities adjacent to the Russian-occupied regions of Abkhazia and Tskhinvali (South Ossetia), was also pointed out at the meeting, the Defence Ministry said.
The conversation also touched on Georgia’s European and Euro-Atlantic aspirations, with the officials highlighting the importance of Sweden’s support to the country on the path to European Accession.
