Traffic on select Tbilisi streets to be restricted for holiday season illuminations removal

Vehicle traffic on Tbilisi’s Melikishvili and Qetevan Dedofali avenues will be restricted for six hours between midnight on Saturday and 6am on Sunday to allow city service employees to remove illuminations installed for New Year’s Eve and Christmas celebrations, Tbilisi City Hall said on Friday.

The body said drivers would be redirected from Chavchavadze Avenue and Varaziskhevi Street to Kostava Street and Rustaveli Avenue through Kekelidze, Janashia, Kutateladze, Barnovi and Kakabadze Brothers streets.

Traffic will also be restricted from Avlabari Square to the intersection of Lech Kaczynski Street, with drivers diverted through Ibrakh, Tsurtsumia, Zurabashvili and Kaczynski streets.

Motorists will also be directed from Telavi Street to Bochorma Street and from Ialbuzi Street in the direction of the left bank of River Mtkvari.

Kostava Street will also see restrictions on vehicle access during the removal of illuminations.

Traffic from Rustaveli Avenue will be directed to Kiacheli and Akhvlediani streets, with drivers having to turn left from Nikoladze Street, before proceeding to Rustaveli Avenue in the direction of Heroes’ Square using Javakhishvili Street and the left bank of River Mtkvari.

The City Hall also announced restrictions in Mtatsminda district due to planned works on the local water supply system between Saturday and Tuesday.

Vehicle traffic will be restricted for seven hours between midnight on Saturday and 7am on Tuesday in the vicinity of the Cadet Corps, at the intersection of Tabukashvili and Lagidze streets.

Drivers heading from Tabukashvili to Inashvili Street will be able to head through Chanturia Street and Rustaveli Avenue, with traffic from Marie Brosset Street also allowed in the direction of river bank.

Vehicles moving from Inashvili Street will be directed to Tabukashvili Street and then connect to Meskhia Street and Rustaveli Avenue.

As for municipal transport, minibus No 528 will head from Baratashvili Street through Freedom Square and Rustaveli Avenue, before connecting to Javakhishvili Street, the city body added.
