Tbilisi authorities to restrict Rustaveli Avenue traffic for New Year’s Eve illumination installation

Vehicle traffic on Rustaveli Avenue in the Georgian capital of Tbilisi will be restricted between midnight and 6am on Wednesday to allow city services to install New Year’s Eve illuminations.
The restrictions will apply between the First Republic Square and Freedom Square, the City Hall announced on Tuesday.
Drivers will be redirected to Leonidze, Ingorokva, Aleksandre Chavchavadze and Griboedovi streets, as well as Baratashvili and Tabukashvili streets. Motorists heading from Melikishvili street to the rest of Mtatsminda district streets will be diverted to Janashia, Tarkhnishvili, Tatishvili, Chovelidze and Zandukeli streets, and then to Barnovi, Gogebashvili and Dzmebi Kakabadzeebi streets.
Drivers heading in the direction of Melikishvili street and the area adjacent to the Rustaveli metro station will be able to head via Griboedovi, Makashvili, Barnovi and Shanidze streets. Traffic on Freedom Square will only be restricted toward Rustaveli Avenue.
Those heading to Freedom Square from the Rustaveli metro station adjacent area will be redirected to Javakhishvili street and the right bank of River Mtkvari.
Vehicle traffic on Tbilisi’s Melikishvili and Qetevan Dedofali avenues will be restricted for six hours between midnight on Saturday and 6am on Sunday to allow city service employees to remove illuminations installed for New Year’s Eve and Christmas celebrations, Tbilisi City Hall said on Friday.
Tbilisi’s riverside Europe Square will host a New Year’s Eve concert featuring dozens of performers celebrating the onset of 2023 with their audience in the open-air location, the City Hall announced on Saturday.
The Georgian Government has promised to bring special New Year’s Eve events to residents of all 10 regions of the country, with celebrations set to be launched on December 24 and run through January 14.
