Irakli Kobakhidze, the head of the ruling Georgian Dream party, on Thursday pledged his country’s authorities would defend the sovereign interests of Ukraine, its independence and reintegration of occupied territories on the backdrop of Russia’s ongoing aggression against Kyiv, “on all international platforms” and “to the end”.
In his press comments, the official stressed the Georgian Government remained “loyal” to the Ukrainian people and supported the reintegration of their Russian-occupied territories.
We are loyal to the idea of Ukraine's territorial integrity, its independence, and we will defend these interests to the end on all international platforms", Kobakhidze said.
The Georgian Government’s report on its work, submitted to the Parliament earlier this month, said the number of statements, declarations and decisions in support of Ukraine, endorsed by Georgia in international organisations, had exceeded 500 since the start of the conflict in February 2022.
The report also highlighted Georgia’s “significant humanitarian and financial assistance” to Ukraine, including to more than 26,000 Ukrainian nationals stranded in Georgia due to the war, through various social and educational programmes, which it said amounted to about ₾38 million ($14.5 million).
