The European Union stands by Georgia and is ready to support the country in its journey to become an integral part of the bloc, supporting its European path by providing “all the necessary assistance”, Roberta Metsola, the President of the European Parliament, said on Wednesday.
In her opening statement ahead of the formal sitting of the European Parliament in Brussels, Metsola stressed the EU and Georgia “need to work more and closer” for granting the bloc’s membership candidate status to the country and ensure that “Georgian people do not miss this historic opportunity”.

She also thanked Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili, attending the session of the EP, for her contribution to supporting the European path of the country.
