Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili on Tuesday reiterated the “unwavering will of the Georgian people to join the European family” at the meeting with Ursula von der Leyen, the President of the European Commission.
In her tweet, after the meeting, Zourabichvili noted she had emphasised the importance of gaining the European Union membership candidate status for the Georgian society and stressed she looked forward to continued cooperation with the Commission, advancing the country on its “historic path” toward EU.

Responding to the meeting, the European Commission President, in her tweet, welcomed Zouabichvili’s “strong commitment” to Georgia's European perspective.

As part of her visit to Brussels, the President of Georgia also held a meeting with the President of the European Council Charles Michel earlier today. She is also set to meet with President of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola and address the European Parliament.
Georgia’s European future and implementation of the 12 priorities outlined by the European Union last year for granting its membership candidate status to the country were discussed on Tuesday by Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili and the President of the European Council Charles Michel.

The steps taken by Georgia for fulfilling the European Union’s 12-point conditions for granting the country the membership candidate status and the security environment in the Black Sea region were discussed on Saturday by Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili and Ursula von der Leyen, the President of the European Commission.
The European Union stands by Georgia and is ready to support the country in its journey to become an integral part of the bloc, supporting its European path by providing “all the necessary assistance”, Roberta Metsola, the President of the European Parliament, said on Wednesday.
Georgia’s “historical” European choice is “not only legitimate, [but] it has no alternative”, Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili said on Wednesday, addressing the European Parliament in Brussels.
Kakha Kaladze, the Mayor of Tbilisi and the Secretary General of the ruling Georgian Dream party, on Thursday said it was “important” to use international platforms to support the objective of Georgia receiving the European Union membership candidate status later this year.
The speakers of parliaments of Slovakia, Austria and the Czech Republic will be on an official visit to Georgia from Monday to Tuesday to review Georgia’s European perspective and the strengthening of parliamentary ties between the countries.
