Georgia’s European future and implementation of the 12 priorities outlined by the European Union last year for granting its membership candidate status to the country were discussed on Tuesday by Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili and the President of the European Council Charles Michel.

Zourabichvili emphasised the importance of granting the status to Georgia and once again expressed the “unwavering” will of the Georgian people to join the EU, the Presidential Administration said.
Charles Michel recalled the European Council’s “historic” decision of the last year to grant Georgia the European perspective and stressed he “firmly believed the future of the country lies in the EU”, hailing Zourabichvili’s role on the path of European integration.

He noted the European Commission would prepare a report on Georgia's candidate status in the fall, as part of the EU enlargement package, upon which Michel said he would propose further steps for the Council’s agenda in the last quarter of 2023.
