European Parliament President Roberta Metsola on Tuesday said the path Georgia was taking in its European Union integration should ultimately “lead the country” to the EU.
In her remarks over the matter, Metsola noted she was continuing discussions with her Georgian counterparts about the process the country should undergo, noting that while it may be “different” from the path taken by other countries, it should bring Georgia to membership in the bloc.
“The position of the European Parliament is clear: we should have the door wide open for all countries that consider Europe their home”, Metsola noted.
I talked and still continue to talk with many of my Georgian friends and counterparts about the path that Georgia should take. This path is very important, it may be different from the path that other countries have taken, but this path should ultimately lead Georgia to the European Union”, she concluded.
