Georgia’s Black Sea city of Batumi will see updates to its coastline boulevard under the Renewed Regions state programme for infrastructure, the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure said on Friday.

The new boulevard will span over a kilometre as part of ongoing construction efforts in the city and will become accessible in stages, with the first part scheduled to be completed in the coming summer.

Infrastructure Minister Irakli Karseladze said the majority of the boulevard would respond to city residents’ and visitors’ needs during the summer season with its “distinctive infrastructure, extensive greenery and other areas”.

The Ministry said the project - run under the state programme launched in 2021 by the country’s Prime Minister - also involved rehabilitation and construction works of a green corridor in the Alley of Heroes, where underground communications and recreational spaces have already been set up.

Other work is being carried out to build bridges connecting parts of the Alley, convert the entire green area into flower beds, and build out landscaping, a sidewalk, an irrigation system, lighting, seats and commercial spaces under the bridge, it also added.
