Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili on Tuesday wished Ukraine peace, an end to the conflict with Russia “soon” and reintegration of its territories in his Victory Day messages commemorating the defeat of Nazi Germany by Allied forces in World War II.
The PM made the remark after a question by a reporter on an interview by Ukrainian MP David Arakhamia for the Georgian Mtavari Arkhi channel on Sunday, in which he expressed confidence the ruling Georgian Dream party would be out of office following the 2024 Parliamentary elections in the country.
Garibashvili said it was “impossible to make any serious comments” on the interview, and instead highlighted his Government's support for Ukraine.
However, he also noted the interview was “another proof” pointing to Arakhamia’s alleged coordination with “domestic radical forces”, who he said had planned to organise a “coup” in Georgia, both before the start of the Russia-Ukraine conflict last year and in its aftermath, with the goal of “returning the neo-fascist regime [of the former United National Government] to power”.
