Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili on Thursday wished Ukraine peace, ending the ongoing war soon and reconciliation of the country, in his comments to the media after the European Political Community Summit in Chișinău.

Garibashvili said he sympathised with Ukraine, as “thousands of people have been dying every day” and infrastructure and cities were being destroyed, “all have suffered and are suffering from this brutal and cruel war”, he added.

Regarding Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s statement, Garibashvili said he could not comment on it, as Ukraine was at war, but noted it was a pity that the statements of Zelenskyy and his Government “have often been in full coincidence with the ones of the domestic hostile forces - the destructive opposition [in Georgia]”, who “have been doing nothing” even on the path of the country’s European integration for Georgia to “receive the candidate status”.

One of my main points that I brought to our European colleagues was that if Europe and our Europeans really want to see a minimised, reduced polarisation, [...] granting the [EU membership candidate] status [to Georgia] will automatically reduce, minimise the polarisation in the country”, Garibashvili added.
