Maka Botchorishvili, the Chair of the Georgian Parliament's European Union Integration Committee, on Wednesday said the visit of the French Foreign Minister Catherine Colonna to the country this week was an “opportunity” to demonstrate Georgia’s progress in efforts for European integration.

In comments to the domestic media, the lawmaker also highlighted the importance of discussions involving visiting foreign officials on a number of “ongoing and serious” topics.

[Such visits] are the opportunity [for the foreign officials] to see with their own eyes the country’s progress and development related to Georgia joining the European Union or strengthening bilateral cooperation with the bloc’s member states”, Botchorishvili said.

Colonna is scheduled to visit Georgia on Friday, as part of her South Caucasus trip.

She will meet with the Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili, President Salome Zourabichvili and her Georgian counterpart Ilia Darchiashvili while in Tbilisi, before leaving for Azerbaijan and Armenia.
