Maka Botchorishvili, the Chair of the European Integration Committee in the Georgian Parliament, discussed her country’s European prospects, further strengthening of cooperation with Sweden and goals of the Swedish presidency of the Council of the EU in meetings during her visit to the country this week.

At meetings held on Monday and Tuesday, the Georgian MP discussed the implementation process of the 12-point conditions set by the EU in June for granting Georgia its membership candidate status.

Botchorishvili also discussed the subject of Sweden’s scheduled takeover of the chairmanship of the Council - a body bringing together government ministers from member states to discuss, amend and adopt laws, as well as coordinate policies - for the next six months starting in January.

Swedish lawmakers reaffirmed their support for Georgia's EU accession process and pledged commitment to strengthening cooperation with the country during their Council presidency, the Parliament of Georgia press office said.

Botchorishvili’s meetings included discussions with Hans Wallmark, the Head of the Committee on EU Affairs in the Swedish Parliament, Peter Hultqvist, the Defence Committee Chair and Gudrun Brunegård, the Head of the Sweden-Georgia Parliamentary Friendship Group.

She also met Christian Danielsson, the Swedish State Secretary for EU Affairs, Kristina Johannesson, the Ambassador for the Eastern Partnership of Sweden and Elinor Hammarskjöld, the Director-General for Political Affairs at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Sweden.
