Finance Ministry investigators charge 2 for misappropriation of property by fraud

The Investigation Service of Georgia’s Finance Ministry on Tuesday charged two individuals for attempted misappropriation of property using forged documents.

In its statement, the Service said its investigation had found the offenders had made and used forged invoice papers on behalf of companies under their management, with false data on real estate purchase and sale operations.

They illegally created ₾998,389 ($391,579) in VAT assets by using the fraudulent paperwork, later attempting to get back ₾500,000 ($196,105) from the state budget.

The crime is punishable by six to nine years in prison.
