Georgia’s Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (TSU), the oldest university in the country and in the South Caucasus region, has sent a part of its humanitarian aid to Ukraine in assistance to those affected by the Russian military invasion of the country, the press office of the University reported earlier on Wednesday.

In addition to medicines, clothing and primary items, Georgian students and TSU employees donated blood for the package to help people injured in the war.

Earlier in March, the University offered its Ukrainian students free-of-charge accommodation at its dormitory, and scholarships during the spring semester. Students from Ukraine who arrived in Georgia on holidays and became stranded due to the war are also able to live at the university’s dormitory free of charge.

Ukrainian citizens currently staying in Georgia will be able to attend TSU’s short-term certificate programmes without paying a tuition fee. Moreover, the university has offered citizens of Ukraine mental health services provided by "highly qualified specialists."

Since the start of the breakout of the hostilities in Ukraine, Georgian citizens and businesses have offered free overnight accommodation and other types of assistance to Ukrainian citizens in the country.

Russia began its military assault on Ukraine last month, following President Putin’s announcement of the recognition of the independence of the Ukrainian regions of Donetsk and Luhansk on February 21.
