The “positive” development of relations between Georgia and Azerbaijan creates a “stronger” foundation for deepening partnership cooperation, Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili said on Thursday in a meeting with Azerbaijani Prime Minister Ali Asadov in Tbilisi.
Hosting the official for a meeting at the presidential Orbeliani Palace, Zourabichvili said the relationship between Georgia and Azerbaijan had been based on mutual respect for the country's sovereignty and territorial integrity that was once again reaffirmed by Azerbaijani PM and expressed his support for it.

The sides stressed the increased importance of friendly relations between the two countries, against the background of the “ongoing processes” in the world and the South Caucasus region, and Zourabichvili expressed hope that Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev’s official visit to Georgia would take place “in the near future”, the Presidential Administration said.
Deepening cooperation in the fields of economy, energy and infrastructure, and the importance of joint projects were also discussed by the officials, with the Azerbaijani PM stressing the significance of using the “greatest” potential of transport and energy “as much as possible”, considering the current geopolitical situation.
The importance of the European Union's involvement in the implementation of infrastructure and energy projects was also emphasised at the meeting. The Georgian and Azerbaijani sides highlighted their “great” contribution to strengthening security and stability, against the backdrop of existing challenges, both in the South Caucasus region and in Europe.
