Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili on Thursday said Georgia and Azerbaijan would contribute to making the South Caucasus more stable through their “exemplary partnership”, stressing the “common goal” and “desire” for achieving stability in the region.

In his remarks at a meeting with his Azerbaijani counterpart Ali Asadov in Tbilisi, Garibashvili noted the “unique” relationship between the nations that he said had been evidenced “over the past years and centuries”.

“There is very close economic cooperation, strategic partnership and, most importantly, friendship between our countries. Our relationship is truly unique, evidenced over the years and centuries. We have strong friendship and good neighbourly relations”, the head of the Georgian Government said.

This relationship is deepening, and I would also like to note that with our exemplary partnership, we will contribute to a more stable South Caucasus. This is our common goal, our common desire to see a stable region that will be the basis for greater economic development and greater prosperity for our peoples”, Garibashvili noted.

In his turn, Asadov noted his visit would contribute to “further strengthening” the “mutually beneficial” cooperation.

Relations between our countries have reached the level of strategic partnership [in recent times]. Our relations are developing in all spheres, be it politics, economy, energy, transport, culture, education, military and other spheres”, he said.

“Azerbaijan and Georgia always support each other at the level of international relations. We have always supported each other's territorial integrity and sovereignty”, the visiting PM added.
