Georgian prime minister Irakli Garibashvili highlighted the importance of developing sustainable energy sources in a roundtable discussion of the United Nations Climate Change Conference on Tuesday.
The government administration said the PM had told the panel, entitled Investing in the Future of Energy: Green Hydrogen, that the current energy crisis had “clearly shown” the significance of diversifying energy sources.

It also cited Garibashvili as saying the “existing geopolitical context” of European states looking for alternative energy sources and supply directions in the wake of the conflict in Ukraine had made Georgia's “key strategic location even more visible".
Georgia can play an important role in diversifying transport routes and ensuring Europe's energy supply. For this purpose, work is underway on the idea of laying an underwater power cable connecting Georgia and Europe in the Black Sea. This strategic project involves the creation of green renewable energy transit opportunities between the European Union and the South Caucasus region", Garibashvili said.
The PM also noted joint efforts of countries involved in the conference would make it possible to implement “historic changes”, ensure energy future and make “positive long-term changes” against climate change.
