In his address at the United Nations Climate Change Conference, Georgian prime minister Irakli Garibashvili highlighted Georgia’s potential to utilise renewable energies as one of the important and “priority” directions of the government, Georgian foreign minister Ilia Darchiashvili said on Tuesday.

Darchiashvili stressed climate change has been “one of the most important” and “complicated” challenges in the world amid “the existing difficulties”, and noted that Garibashvili had discussed the challenges related to climate change from the perspective of Georgia, the government administration said.

The minister also highlighted the Georgian PM’s participation in the roundtable discussion of the Conference, chaired by Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, the president of Egypt and co-chaired by the chancellor of Germany Olaf Scholz, where Garibashvili spoke about the Georgian government’s policy to “effectively” deal with climate change and the potential of renewable energies in the country, as well as about the implemented and planned projects, which would bring Georgia “even closer” to Europe.
