Romanian President Klaus Iohannis on Saturday said he expected that maritime transport would be expanded with Georgia at the signing ceremony of the Agreement on a strategic partnership in the field of green energy development and transmission between the governments of Georgia, Azerbaijan, Romania and Hungary.
Iohannis noted energy security and regional cooperation have been a “key task” for Romania and the European Union, against the backdrop of the “current security situation” and military aggression in Ukraine, and stressed the need for “better cooperation” and “more solidarity” to overcome the common challenges”.

The official emphasised the Agreement would create a framework for “long-term” cooperation between the countries in many directions, including production, transportation and trade of clean energy, the development of new transmission lines and infrastructure, especially the Black Sea submarine cable, and joint projects, green hydropower and energy efficiency.
This is an ambitious Agreement and together we can make a valuable contribution to strengthening Europe's energy security and also contribute to sustainable development and growth in the countries of the region”, the President said, adding “tangible”, flagship initiatives implemented in the field of the Eastern Partnership would be brought forward with the Agreement.
The Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili has participated in the plenary meeting on the signing ceremony of the Agreement, as part of his official visit in Bucharest.
