David Bakradze, Georgia’s permanent representative to the United Nations, on Wednesday said his country condemned Russia’s attempted illegal annexation of Ukrainian regions following “sham referendums” organised for the purpose in the territories.
Bakradze reiterated Georgia’s “unwavering support” to Ukraine’s independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity within its internationally recognised borders - extending to its territorial waters.
For more than seven months now, we have seen the devastating results of Russia's full-scale military aggression against Ukraine. [...] As the permanent representative of a country occupied by Russia in 2008, let me be clear - time matters, words matter and the action we took today matters”, the ambassador noted.
"It matters for the future of generations, for the future of the United Nations, and for its ability to address and resolve the world's most pressing challenges in the months and years ahead”, Bakradze told delegates at a UN general assembly session.
It was our collective responsibility to send a clear signal in defense of the principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity, the principles of the UN Charter https://t.co/a6QSeA1wwa pic.twitter.com/vayLo7UE0a

The general assembly on Wednesday voted overwhelmingly to condemn Russia's attempts to annex four regions of Ukraine, with Georgia among 143 countries supporting the related resolution.
The resolution calls on the international community not to recognise Russia's annexation claims of Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson and Zaporizhzhia and demands the "immediate reversal" of the annexation attempts.
