Georgia will receive up to 50,000 doses of the Pfizer vaccine for Covid-19, designated for children aged between five and 12, in the second quarter of this year, the head of the National Center for Disease Control Amiran Gamkrelidze announced today.
As Gamkrelidze explained, preliminary discussion on vaccination of the children in the age group was held by the Immunisation Council body, with those in risk groups to be vaccinated primarily.
In the first stage, we are thinking about making it available for children with concomitant diseases,” Gamkrelidze said.
According to the United States Food and Drug Administration, Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine for children aged five through 11 is administered as a two-dose primary series three weeks apart. However, the jabs are of a lower dose (10 micrograms) than that used for individuals aged 12 and older (30 micrograms).
Georgia approved coronavirus vaccination for teenagers between 12 and 15 years of age with the Pfizer vaccine in November 2021.
Vaccination against Covid-19 in Georgia is available with Pfizer, Sinopharm, Sinovac and AstraZeneca vaccines on the registration portal https://booking.moh.gov.ge.
A range of Covid-19-related limitations on public events and gatherings will begin to be eased in Georgia starting next month, from club venues being allowed to operate at reduced capacity, to weddings, conferences and other gatherings permitted.
