Georgian foreign minister Ilia Darchiashvili on Thursday said the inaugural summit of the European political community, set to be hosted in Prague between Thursday and Friday, would focus on the “challenges that threaten the global security architecture” and on the question of how to continue “building the European family”.

Darchiashvili noted the new platform was “very important” as it brought together the leaders of the European Union with countries whose “political future” was associated with the EU.

Georgia, of course, is represented on this platform, and the Georgian prime minister will participate in this platform, along with other leaders - in the discussions that are relevant. We will talk about the security challenges in our region and beyond - the challenges that directly threaten the global security architecture”, the top Georgian diplomat said.

“There will be very important discussions about how to continue the construction of the European family, the integration of the countries that are associated with the European family, and in this regard, I think it is very important for us from the prism and perspective of our European integration”, he continued.

Darchiashvili also stressed Georgia enjoyed “dynamic” relations with the European Union.

Any new mechanism that will help our country to strengthen and make our European integration more result-oriented is welcome for us, and that is why the Georgian prime minister is represented within the framework of this new initiative, together with other leaders, to jointly discuss the future of those countries associated with the European family”, he concluded in his comments.

Prime minister Irakli Garibashvili will feature in the inaugural summit, initiated by the European Union and bringing together the heads of 27 EU member countries and 17 partner states.

Garibashvili, together with the leaders of the countries of the European political community, will participate in “high-level topical discussions” in a roundtable format.
