Pawel Herczynski, the European Union ambassador to Georgia, on Friday said the “doors to the European Union” were “open” for Georgia.

Herczynski noted the European perspective, granted by EU institutions to the country in June, was “crystal clear” and Georgia had a “window of opportunity” for its integration aspirations.

The doors to the European Union are open for Georgia. The European perspective is crystal clear and Georgia has a window of opportunity. It is for Georgians to deliver on the 12 recommendations”, Herczynski said in reference to the conditions outlined for the country to receive the membership candidate status.

The diplomat also expressed his hope that “all stakeholders” of the domestic scene, both from the government and the opposition, would take advantage of the “open door” and move forward in implementing the conditions.

On June 24, the European Council granted the membership candidate status to Ukraine and Moldova, and said it would be ready to grant the same status to Georgia once the outstanding priorities outlined by the European Commission would be addressed by the Georgian government.
