Existing threats and challenges in the Black Sea region on the backdrop of a “deteriorating security environment” were discussed on Monday in a meeting between the Georgian defence minister Juansher Burchuladze and Pawel Herczynski, the European Union ambassador to Georgia.

Burchuladze expressed his hope the cooperation between Georgia and the EU would “further deepen” and “become fruitful”, the Georgian defence ministry said.

Burchuladze also once again emphasised his country’s aspiration towards the European and Euro-Atlantic structures and said he hoped Georgia would receive the EU membership candidate status “in the near future”.

The meeting focused on the issues of the ongoing cooperation between the EU and Georgia, in particular the country’s contribution to the EUTM RCA military training mission in the Central African Republic and the efforts of the bloc in peaceful resolution of conflicts.
