Azerbaijani president Ilham Aliyev on Thursday said it was “important” to create a “single platform” for discussions involving regional neighbours Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia to ensure peace and stability in the South Caucasus.

Aliyev, who participated in the inaugural summit of the European Political Community in Prague, noted the triple format could focus on the issues of energy, communications and other issues of mutual interest between the three states.

He also noted Azerbaijan supported the process of normalisation of relations between Turkey and Armenia.

He stressed normalisation of relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia on the one hand, and Turkey and Armenia on the other were “complementary” processes that “can serve to ensure peace and tranquillity in the region as a whole”.

Georgian foreign minister Ilia Darchiashvili on Thursday said the government was “actively working” with neighbouring countries and partners both in Central Asia and in the European Union to further strengthen its role as a “strong contributor” to peace and energy security in the South Caucasus region.

He said Tbilisi was" ready at any time” to host Armenian and Azerbaijani leaders “for a calm and peaceful dialogue” to ensure regional stability amid tensions periodically flaring up between the latter over the disputed Nagorno-Karabakh region.
