Georgian prime minister Irakli Garibashvili on Sunday “heartily” congratulated Jewish “brothers” in Georgia and those who have returned to their “historical homeland” - Israel, as well as Jewish people “all over the world” on their New Year, Rosh HaShanah.
The centuries-old friendship of Georgians and Jews is a unique historical event that both are proud of”, the head of the government said in his Facebook post.
Garibashvili noted the “daily work” of the Jewish community for the advancement of the “common homeland” [Georgia] would further strengthen the “brotherhood” between Georgians and Jewish people.

Rosh HaShanah is a two-day celebration of the Jewish New Year. The biblical name for this holiday is Yom Teruah, which translates to a day of shouting or blasting, and the holiday is the first of the Jewish High Holy Days that occurs in the late summer or early autumn of the Northern Hemisphere.
