Georgia’s European integration was discussed in a meeting between Shalva Papuashvili, the Speaker of the Georgian Parliament, and Sanna Marin, the Prime Minister of Finland, on Wednesday.

The Georgian Parliament’s press office said Papuashvili had addressed the progress made by Georgia in implementing the Association Agreement, signed with the European Union in 2014, in the meeting.

The Parliament official also stressed the importance of the European Commission granting the EU membership candidate status to the Associated Trio countries of Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine in the meeting.

[We discussed] that now it is important for the Georgian society, on the one hand, to receive a signal of solidarity from the European Union and, on the other hand, for the European Union to send a clear signal to Russia that aggressive attitude towards its neighbours is unacceptable”, Papuashvili said.

The sides also discussed the Russian aggression in Ukraine and its continuing occupation of Georgian regions, with Marin reaffirming Finland's strong support for Georgia's European aspirations.
