Giorgi Grigolia, a 41-year-old Georgian volunteer joining Ukrainian forces to defend the country against the ongoing Russian invasion, was killed near the Donetsk region city of Bakhmut, the Georgian Public Broadcaster said on Tuesday.
Citing Giorgi Zakarashvili, the Ambassador of Georgia to Ukraine, the channel said Grigolia had been killed in clashes in the hotly contested region in the east.
Grigolia’s family members said they had no information when his body would be transferred to Georgia.
The volunteer had been involved in the war from the beginning of the Russian invasion. He has left behind a Ukrainian wife and a child.
In total, 13 Georgian volunteers have died in the war since the start of the Russian invasion.
