Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili on Tuesday congratulated law enforcement officers on Police Day, saying citizens of the country were “proud” of the “no longer politicised” force.

Garibashvili said the police offered “equal protection” to every citizen of the country, in his congratulatory message.

Through cooperation with foreign partners, well-planned reforms, consistent steps, our resilience and your high professionalism, the Ministry of Internal Affairs has achieved that the Georgian police actively participates in international police activities and proudly represents [itself],” Garibashvili said at a ceremony dedicated to the date.

He also added he was “very happy that we were able to transform the police,” pointing out the law enforcement would ensure it was “strong and successful” through having “dedicated professionals, self-sacrificing officers” who were “proud of their uniforms”.

I am well-aware that you are often at risk when doing your job. Today we once again remember your friends and colleagues, those heroic police officers who gave their lives for the security of the country and the people. I bow once again before the blessed memory of our hero police officers,” Garibashvili concluded.
