Georgian broadcasters' commercial advertising revenue up 10.6% in Q1

Commercial advertising revenue of the Georgian broadcasters increased by 10.6 percent in the first quarter of 2022 year-on-year and reached ₾17.8 million (about $6.03m/€5.75m), the Communications Commission revealed on Thursday. 

The regulatory body, responsible for broadcasting and electronic communication, said advertising revenues of TV stations had increased by 11.3 percent and reached ₾16.3 million (about $5.53m/€5.27m). The share of advertisements in the total commercial advertising revenues was 75.6 percent, while the share of sponsorship was 14.3 percent. 

The top TV companies by commercial advertising revenue in were:

  • Imedi TV - ₾5.4 million (+₾0.2 million y/y)
  • Mtavari Arkhi - ₾2.5 million (+₾0.6 million y/y)
  • Media Holding (former Rustavi 2) - ₾1.9 million (-₾0.1 million y/y)
  • TV Pirveli - ₾1.6 million (+₾0.4 million y/y)
  • Formula - ₾1.4 million (doubled compared to the previous year)
  • Silknet - ₾0.9 million (+₾0.1 million y/y)
  • Post TV - ₾0.8 million (+₾0.1 million y/y)
  • Public Broadcaster - ₾0.2 million (same as last year)

In the quarter, the total advertising revenue of radio broadcasters increased by 2.8 percent and amounted to ₾1.5 million (about $0.51m/€0.48m). Radio Holding Fortuna had the highest share of revenues, totalling ₾810,200 (about $274,644/€261,702).

Commercial revenue includes commercial advertising, sponsorship, product placement, teleshopping, and classifieds.
