Defence Minister observes drills in Georgia’s south

Georgian Defence Minister Juansher Burchuladze on Thursday observed the ongoing Gelati 2022 command-staff exercise at the Orpolo firing range near Akhaltsikhe in Georgia’s south.

In the drills demonstrated to the Minister, his Deputy Joni Tatunashvili and Brigadier General Koba Grigolia, the head of the Georgian Defence Forces Western Command, a tactical group of the 32nd Infantry Battalion of the 3rd Infantry Brigade “successfully carried out a defensive operation,” the Ministry said.

The manoeuvres were supported by anti-aircraft forces, artillery, engineering elements, as well as mechanised, tank and anti-tank units.

Improving management and control procedures in the planning and execution process during defence operations by brigade headquarters was the aim of the exercise, the Ministry said, adding NATO Collective Training and Exercise Manuals were used in all phases of the training.
