Georgian Parliament Speaker, NATO official discuss  cooperation

The ongoing cooperation between Georgia and NATO  was discussed between Shalva Papuashvili, the Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia,  and Javier Colomina, the NATO Secretary General's Special Representative for the Caucasus and Central Asia,  in Tbilisi on Wednesday.

Papuashvili expressed gratitude to NATO for supporting Georgia's territorial integrity, noting the special importance of Georgia's aspirations for membership in the organisation. He also expressed hope that Georgia 's progress would be recognised at NATO's Madrid Summit this year, the Georgian Parliament’s press office said.

The sides also highlighted Georgia's contribution to global security and the country's progress on the path to Euro-Atlantic integration, Russia's aggression in Ukraine and its “dire consequences” for the South Caucasus region.

The alliance will continue to actively cooperate with Georgia and promote democratic reforms in the country, ​​the NATO official also said.
